I've had a pile of old Melody Makers out on the coffee table to entertain guests recently . The gig listings at the back have incited the biggest reaction  due to the sheer volume of amazing bands playing every week up and down  merry old England

The Faces

  I find it  hard  to listen to the Faces without opening a bottle of wine and  then suddenly it's 2 hours later , things have got quite merry and all my blues have gone away !
Here is a rather tasty French picture sleeve 45  from my collection...now I'm gonna go listen to First Step.

 I first saw Bronco @ Mothers  Erdington  Birmingham  on 18 April 1970  when they supported the newly reformed Traffic .......the club was packed beyond capacity and I remember standing on the seats at the back while condensation dripped down the walls and Steve Winwood in front of a hometown  crowd unveiled the songs of John Barleycorn.

.....one of my favorite Bronco songs,released as a 45  in the U.S . Written by guitarist  Robbie Blunt who went on to be in Silverhead and Robert Plant's band during the early 80's.

Jess Roden goes to New Orleans

My friend Eric pointed out to me that there were thousands of blogs being written about obscure lp's....."bloody ridiculous" I murmured as I pulled out a pristine copy of the first Jess Roden lp on Island records - you know the one Catalogue # ILPS 9286 and produced by Allen Toussaint.
Before making this album Jess was in Bronco who recorded two splendid albums on Island called Country Home & Ace of Sunlight.
I saw Bronco quite a few times  and they were much heavier and potent live than their studio albums.
Here is a poster for a gig in their hometown of  Kidderminster  25 July 1971 that currently resides on my kitchen wall
